On the Windows side, it’s a bit different as WMP usually handles most video tasks, though iTunes for Windows also requires QuickTime. I do this to watch movies while I work, all the time. While you can watch movies directly in iTunes, if you wish, you can navigate right to the intended video and open it in QuickTime, make the window float on top of everything, and then move it anywhere on your monitor. It supports third-party plug-ins that extend its technology in many different directions and you can also use QuickTime to stream your media across the Internet.Ĭon’s: Advanced features require QuickTime ProĬonclusion: On the Mac side of the world, QuickTime is integrated into nearly everything. QuickTime lets you convert your files to different formats and record and edit your work. QuickTime supports H.264, an advanced video compression technology that delivers brilliant, crisp HD quality video using less bandwidth and requires less storage on your PC.

You can also search through individual movie frames quickly. You can also control the speed at which the media plays via a handy slider lets you set playback from 1/2x to 3x the normal speed. Quickly moving through lengthy video is as easy as moving a slider to the left or right in the program window. QuickTime Player has a clean, uncluttered interface that doesn't get in the way of what you’re watching.

You can use it to view a movie on your Mac or PC or a media clip on a website. You can use it to view video from your digital camera or mobile phone. You can use QuickTime for all of your media. Apple has integrated its media into most, if not all of its ecosystem and that's probably the biggest reason why I like its QuickTime application.

I have an iPhone and an iPad and I love them to death.

Hope this helps out! If you're on your parents' computer.you may consider asking them before reinstalling an operating system.Play all kinds of media, including iTunes DRM'ed media, with this must have, multi-platform tool. He also said that some of the really heavy software, like ProTools or really big music, photo, video, that kind of software, might need to be reinstalled as well after you reinstall OSX but should be fine after that.Īnyway.

So yeah.wait for the update if you're unsure. However, mine is 4 years old, rather slow for a Mac, and came through with flying colors. The guy at the Apple store said he'd never seen it happen, but if your hard drive is already kind of corrupted or on its' way towards failure, a reinstall could mess some things up. One thing I should mention: I asked several times to make SURE that it wasn't going to mess anything up on my hard drive. Takes about 30-45 minutes and I recommend having at least 5 gigs of free space on your drive.

If you're like me and a little chicken to try this on your own, set up an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple store (it's free!) and see what they recommend, most likely they'll perform the reinstall right there. The guy at the store was extremely confident that nothing would go wrong but I like to be safe. Still, make sure you back up your computer, just in case.

Mine is working as if nothing ever happened.

It reverts back to whatever version of the system your computer came with, at the store it took mine back to 10.4.7, and then we ran Software Update and reinstalled 10.4.11. Here's an Apple article on how exactly to do it:Īll this does is replace your old operating system with a fresh copy, so to speak. I had them reinstall it right there in the store (and it's nowhere near as scary as I had anticipated), but it's pretty simple from the startup discs that came with your computer. Basically the guy said I could do one of three things: wait for an update from Aspyr or Apple (and he really didn't know how long either might take), have them reinstall OSX at the store, or go home and reinstall from the startup discs. I went to the Apple store this afternoon.
